Customer Support and System Administration
Even though Salesforce.com is totally wizard driven and has excellent documentation, the skills needed for deep system administration are in short supply. For customers who can't afford a full-time administrator, the choice is to have a secretary or sales admin try to fill in, or to use one of their most qualified engineers or executives as the system administrator. Neither of these choices makes sense.
SFDC offers Premier Support, which can do nearly any system administration or configuration task. But this level of support is a fixed expense, a monthly retainer that many customers don't want to sign up to.
