What JunQue does

JunQue is a native Salesforce.com application that helps users manage their lead quality without imposing an additional burden on their Sales and Marketing teams. Leads are analyzed against filter criteria to determine whether the lead should be followed up on, or put into a JunQue queue. JunQue is self-learning, and lets you easily build the knowledge base up over time. With JunQue, your sales team won't see the leads that "everyone knows" aren't worth following up on.

JunQue filters are based on email domains, company names, job titles, and full lead profiles that you identify. As more users add JunQue candidates to the database, the screening improves and an increasing proportion of leads are filtered out.

After you've set up JunQue, all new or updated leads in the system will be automatically filtered.  If a lead trips one of the JunQue criteria (by matching one of the rules or a JunQue lead already in your database), the Apex code automatically changes ownership of that lead to the JunQue Queue that you've set up in your SFDC instance.

What JunQue Is

JunQue is a native APEX application that installs into your system.  The package automatically creates a Custom App, 4 Custom Tabs, 4 Custom Objects, APEX code, some reports, and a dashboard.  JunQue creates four new tabs in your system, all but one of which may be hidden after the initial install.

Installing JunQue

This application is provided without charge, and is provided to everyone on an as-is basis.  Read the licensing terms here -- by using this product, you are agreeing to its terms.  If you do not want to be bound by those terms, the only recourse is to stop using this product and to contact SalesLogistix to acquire the product under the terms that you need.

Before you download Lead JunQue, the first step of installation is to set up a lead queue in your system under the name "Leads - JunQue" (the only Supported Object that needs to be selected is Leads, and you don't need to have any queue members or queue email set up).

Go to this location to download the package (follow the registration procedure, and follow the wizard's "next" buttons).  When you reach step 4, you'll probably want to select "Grant Access to all Users" (if you're paranoid, use the "Admin access only" option, but this will mean some extra steps later).  At step 5, make sure to check the box "ignore APEX errors" because there may be one which can't be avoided.  Then push the "Deploy Now," followed by the "Deploy" button.  When the wizard is complete, you'll be presented with the Package Detail and Package Items manifest.

Now there are some things you need to do to configure your system for JunQue.

  • Go into Setup and Customize the Leads, and select the Page Layouts item.  For any of the Page Layouts used by Sales or Telesales people, you'll want to add the JunQue It button and the "Ignore this for JunQue" checkbox.  Once your in the page layout editor, select the Detail Page Buttons item (in the Button Section) and push the Edit Properties button.  When the configuration pop-up appears, move the JunQue It button from the Available to the Selected list and push the OK button.  Then scroll down the Page Layout editor page to find the Lead Field called JunQue Ignore:  drag and drop it to the Lead Information area of the page.  When done, push the Save button so the layout will be put into use.
  • Now select the Search Layouts item in the Lead Customization menu.  Find the Leads List View, and push the Edit link.  When the editor window appears, add JunQue It to the Selected Buttons list, and click the Save button. This allows you to declare a bunch of Leads as JunQue, rather than having to JunQue them one by one.

Go to the upper right corner of the page (in the app selector pull down) and select the JunQue application.  You'll now see four JunQue tabs, where you can set up email domains, company names, and job titles as JunQue filters.  You can also look at all the JunQue matches (these are the templates that have been created when users have hit the JunQue It button.

You're done!

If you originally set up the system with "Admin Access Only" and now you want everyone to be able to use it, here's the drill:

  • Go into Setup, and select the manage users area.  Select the Profiles item, and then click on one of the profiles (but not its edit button).  Once the page appears, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and look at the Enabled Apex Class Access area.  Hit the edit button and add the SLXSpam.SpamUtils (JunQue Lead Filter) to the enabled list.
  • Repeat for each of your active Profiles.

Configuring and Using JunQue

The main areas for configuring JunQue are in the database of JunQue criteria.  JunQue flags poor leads in two ways:  through matching  individual fields (email domains, company names, and job titles) and through matching entire lead entry (exemplar).  The patterns for matching fields are established by system administrators using the JunQue tabs to create and manage your company's list of trash email domains, company names, and job titles.  The exemplars of lead data are established by users pushing the JunQue It! button on individual leads.  Note that the free version of the product uses only literal string matches.  Wild-carding is only available in the premium version of the product.

There are lots of cosmetic configuration options for Lead JunQue -- in the dashboards, reports, page layouts, etc.  You can even use record types to hide details of JunQue leads from your telesales people, or create time-based triggers to automatically demote JunQue leads that have had no follow up activity.

Usage Tips

Because most users will completely ignore JunQued Leads, don't go overboard with the JunQue criteria.  For example, you don't really want to JunQue everyone with an msn email domain, because some very valuable prospects may only use that address.

A best practice is to run a report on the JunQue lead queue at least once a month to find out who's been dropped in there.  Due to error or simple accident, you may find some people with very interesting job titles or companies have been JunQued.  When you discover one of these, click on the "exclude from JunQue" checkbox for that lead.  You should also figure out how to relax the JunQue criteria so that person doesn't trigger it in the future.

Remember, Leads are re-evaluated for JunQue every time they're edited -- so you don't want leads repeatedly being filtered out because of a too-aggressive filter.

Uninstalling JunQue

Before you run the uninstall sequence you need to remove the JunQue It buttons from any page layouts or search layouts you may have added it to.  Use the Setup > App Setup > Customize > Leads menu items to do this, then use the Setup > App Setup > Develop > View Installed Packages item to remove the bundle from your system.
